OUR HISTORY

We provide a ``one stop shop`` for local groups and/or individuals within Mid Canterbury to access information on the local welfare/social services which are available in our area.

WHERE IT ALL BEGAN

Community House was started By May Greenslade as a resource centre for non-government agencies, to provide a hub for social service groups in Ashburton in 1995. The centre was administered by volunteers but by 2002 the demand was such that a full time manager was appointed. In 2010 the resource centre was rebranded to Community House Mid Canterbury.

Early in 2016 Community House bought a permanent building and was officially opened in April at 44 Cass Street by the Rangitata MP and Ministry for the Community and Volunteer Sector Jo Goodhew. And now houses over 20 tenants and provides casual office spaces and Meeting rooms for hire. We also provide Network Meetings and photocopying and JP signing.

Late in 2016 Carol, Gary and Brad Haskett from KFC and Kevin Opele from Toyota provide a Community Van to Community House for hire to community groups.
