Is the hub of the house, bubbly and efficient and eager to direct/help clients, and although fairly new to Community House shares the same passion as the manager for the House and mid Canterbury.
John started as the chairman of the board in 2010. He took over from May Greenslade the founder of Community House in 1994. Prior to becoming the chairman John served on the board for 5 years. John is passionate about the vision of Community House and it’s growth in a developing and growing community. After the earthquakes the Community House Trust was forced to move and re-evaluate their direction and in 2015 after being in temporary housing and lots of funding the trust purchased it’s own building. John was instrumental in this move and in growing the tenancy and now John has become Manager of this incredible facility.
To foster, promote and encourage the provision of social services for the community of Mid Canterbury.
To expand support services especially for non-profit organisations which promote community services and social services for the people of Mid Canterbury.
Community House was started By May Greenslade as a resource centre for non-government agencies, to provide a hub for social service groups in Ashburton in 1995. The centre was administered by volunteers but by 2002 the demand was such that a full time manager was appointed. In 2010 the resource centre was rebranded to Community House Mid Canterbury.
We provide low rental office accommodation for non-profit organisations, assistance to groups completing grant funding applications, advice and support to groups/individuals to access information on the local welfare/social services available in the district.
